Freestyle Fitness Yoga

Fitness Yoga is a freestyle class that targets flexibility, core stability and strength.

It is a fitness programme that incorporates deep stretch, Yoga postures and Pilates exercises combined with the fluidity and aesthetic qualities of contemporary dance.

Every element of Fitness Yoga is validated from a fitness perspective. Anyone taking part in a Fitness Yoga class can expect to improve their flexibility greatly in 8 weeks. They will learn how to identify the body's stabilising muscles ( the core) and use them effectively and efficiently to improve their posture and move with more confidence.

Fitness Yoga is not a spiritual experience. It mimics Yoga in its breathing and style offering postures that endorse strength and stability. These may prove addictive but there is no dogma, changing or philosophy attached to this workout. There are no Sanskrit terms as postures are prescribed from the body's natural anatomical perspective.

Pilates exercises that target and positively enhance the body's postural muscles are included in this workout. During Fitness Yoga, moves and postures are sequenced together making transitions seamless and graceful.

Fitness yoga is appropriate for many different target groups.

  • Health clubs can benefit from putting Fitness Yoga on ther timetable, as its roots in fitness make it an excellent prescription for a total body programme where flexibility is often the weakest link.
  • Current exercisers can use Fitness Yoga as a valuable cross-training tool.
  • The non-exerciser can use Fitness Yoga as a gateway into a rounded exercise regime.
