Starting with Pilates

First of all, let me congratulate you on your decision. I am certain that the regular practice of Pilates exercises will bring you many benefits!

To maximise the beneficial effects of Pilates practice, I recommend that you attend suitable Pilates classes or practice with the guidance of a qualified Pilates instructor. This is because, while many Pilates moves may look familiar, their focus is different from what you may expect and newcomers to the technique usually find it quite difficult to correctly acquire it on their own.

Experience shows that simply buying a video and trying to follow it is usually not sufficient to ensure that you understand an exercise and its focus, let alone ensure that you are performing the exercise correctly!!! Moreover, the video cannot give you any feedback, so you will probably not be sure whether you have been performing the exercises correctly or not. Feedback can however be obtained by attending a class or by hiring a qualified Pilates instructor for a one-on-one session.
